Who are Byfleet Ramblers Ladies Hockey Club.? ::
Byfleet Ramblers are a Ladies Hockey Club based at the Winston Churchill School, Hermitage Road, Woking, Surrey. We run 3 ladies teams playing a mixture of League and Non-League matches and we cater for all ages and standards. We hold regular training sessions on Monday evenings from 7:30pm, and also have a very active social side. This includes regular parties and over the past 5 years, hockey tours within the UK and overseas. We have been in existence for almost 50 years, having been founded by ladies from the "Sir William Perkins School" in the mid 1950's. The exact date needs verification. During the 60's and 70's, Byfleet Ramblers had 4-5 Ladies teams and were one of the top clubs in Surrey. As the game moved onto astroturf, Byfleet found it difficult to keep their members and in the late 1980's, they dropped down to 2 teams.Things picked up in the 1991 season, when they picked up a host of new players and several League Championships, and they now run 3 teams. They have been in various locations, namely Chertsey Recreation ground and were called Chertsey Ramblers. Then they moved to the Recreation ground in Byfleet for many years. A brief stay at Whiteley village in 1992-4 saw them move into Woking park for 4 seasons, until they moved the club to The Winston Churchill School, Woking, which is their current home pitch. Over the decades, numerous players throughout Surrey have worn the blue tops of By fleet Ramblers, with many still playing across the county and South East today.
