Q - Who are we
A - We are a Ladies Hockey Club playing at the Winston Churchill School, Hermitage Road, Woking

Q - How many teams do we have.
A - We are currently running 3 Ladies teams

Q - What level and standard do they play at.
A - We cater for all ages and standards from 14+ years upwards.

Q - Do you play a mixture of League and non-League matches
A - Yes, we play in the Surrey Ladies Leagues;
1st in Division 4
2nd in Division 5
3rd in Division 9

Q - What pitch surface do you play on
A - Nearly all our games, around 98%, are on Astroturf, with only away games occasionally played on grass should the opposition use it.

Q - Where do you normally play
A - We play on the Astroturf pitches at the Winston Churchill School, Woking

Q - What time do you normally play.
A - Our home games at WCS are normally 10:30am - 12:00pm and 12:00pm - 1:30pm

Q - What facilities are there at the Winston Churchill School
A - We have full use of the changing rooms and lounge area for refreshments after matches, along with a very large car park

Q - How do I join.?
A - Simply ring the contact number, email us or come along in person to training or match days

Q - How do I know where and when you will be playing.
A - We list all our matches and locations on the website under the 1,2,3 details. We also supply members with a fixture list of matches and useful contact telephone numbers and dates of the AGM, Christmas and End of Season meals

Q - Is it expensive to join
A - Not really. Our annual subscriptions are £70, with match fees at £7:00 per game, but this includes the cost of training. Very reasonable, when you consider some clubs charge £120+ in subscriptions just to join

Q - When and where do you train
A - We train every Monday 7:30pm to 9:00pm at the Winston Churchill School, Woking.

Q - What are the club colours
A - We play in Pink and Blue Quartered shirts, with Navy skirt and Saxe blue socks

Q - Who picks the teams
A - The Captains and Vice Captains hold a regular monthly meeting to discuss team selections and can move players around based on their ability within the teams/squads

Q - How many are there in each squad
A - Usually there are around 13-14 players in each squad to choose from

Q - Does the club have umpires
A - Yes, we currently have two graded umpires, with players helping out should the need arise in non league matches

Q - Do you have enough club kit
A - Yes, each team has its own goalkeeping kit to comply with the hockey regulations for safety and rules of hockey.

Q - What about first aid
A - Each team has its own first aid kit to deal with minor injuries, should they occur pitchside

Q - How do you get to matches
A - We share car rides to minimize costs

Q - What about directions to away games
A - Each team is given printed maps with the route and destination marked, to avoid any confusion over directions and turning up late

Q - Where do you normally meet for away matches
A - We usually meet in the car park of Tesco’s at Brooklands, Sopwith Drive, Byfleet

Q - How far do you normally have to travel to away games
A - The farthest we go North is to Crystal Palace, but usually only for league matches if we can avoid it. In the East we go as far as Biggin Hill and South as far as Cranleigh, whilst in the West we go as far as Staines. The majority of our matches are within these boundaries, with lots of clubs located ½ hour to ¾ hour drive from our starting point at Tesco’s Brooklands
Although for late fixtures we can travel farther should the need arise.

Q - Who picks the fixtures for the club
A - These are normally arranged at the annual fixtures meeting for Surrey by the clubs Fixture Secretary. This meeting, around the beginning of May, is where all the League matches are given out to the clubs by the Surrey League and they can also book up any empty slots with non-league games with any other clubs present.

Q - Do you just play Surrey clubs
A - No, we also play teams from Middlesex and Hampshire

Q - Who runs the club
A - We have a club Committee which is voted into office at the AGM each season to run the affairs of the club. There are usually 10-12 members on the Committee.

Q - How often does the Committee meet
A - It usually meets every 4-6 weeks to review the club’s progress and deal with any issues that may have arisen and plan for the months ahead.

Q - When is the AGM
A - This is held around the end of April each season

Q - What about the social side of the club
A - We hold regular evenings out along with our usual Christmas, and end of season meals and awards ceremonies

Q - Do you have any club sponsors
A - Yes, we are currently sponsored by Cannons Health Club of West Byfleet and Raven Solutions

Q - Do you ever go on tour
A - Yes, regularly. In the past 4 years we have gone to, in order, Eindhoven (Holland) (1999), Folkestone (2001), Weston-Super-Mare (2002), Barnstaple (2002), Weston-Super-Mare (2003),

Q - Where do you normally stay on tour
A - We usually lodge in local Bed and Breakfast accommodation on tour, although for Barnstaple we stayed under canvas. (Tents)

Q - How much does a typical tour cost
A - Between £90 - £140. Obviously, it’s nearer the top end if we go abroad

Q - Do you play any summer hockey
A - Yes, we regularly play in the Woking and Guildford Ladies Summer Leagues, which usually run from June - August

Q - Who can play in these Summer games
A - Anyone in the club, as long as they are available.

Q - How much does it cost to play in these summer matches
A - Not much, around £3:00-£4:00 per match
